Judges 13:24-25

  •  Samson was a cross between James Bond, an Xmen character & someone you know who is emotional
  • “For the Lord is good & His love endures for all generations – His faithfulness continues to all generations” (Ps 100:5)
14:1 Samson went down to Timnah and saw there a young Philistine woman. 2 When he returned, he said to his father and mother, “I have seen a Philistine woman in Timnah; now get her for me as my wife.”

Judges 14:1-3

  • Lust is a strong desire for something, sometimes it is sexual
    • Culture says –I want that!
    • God says –Godliness with contentment is great gain

Judges 14:4

  • Although God did not initiate this relationship between Samson & the girl, God was willing to use it to help loosen the grip the Philistines had over Israel

Judges 14:5-6

  • The Spirit of God gave Samson his strength

Judges 14:7-9

  • There were 3 aspects to the Nazarite Vow Samson had to keep for his strength
    • Don’t eat/drink anything from the vine –no grapes-vinegar-wine
    • Don’t touch a dead animal
    • Don’t cut your hair
  • Samson’s MO = it’s ok if I break some of the rules as long as I don’t break all of the rules
    • Which rules are you willing to break or not break in your life?
      • Lust is ME centered
      • Love is OTHERS centered
  • Even though Samson had broken 2 aspects of his vow so far, he was not put in God’s “dog house”
    • Ps 117:2For great is his love towards us – & the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever

Judges 14:10-19

  • Questions to ask yourself when you are angry:
    • What set me off?
    • Why does it matter so much to me?

Judges 14:20-15:8

  • The only way to step out of the retaliation cycle, is to forgive someone for what they did to you ….. Jesus

Judges 15:9-17

  • Through Samson –the Phillistines were aware of how the God of the Bible was able to empower someone with super-human strength

Judges 15:18-20

  • “Keep your vow Samson & you can keep your blessing –remember though -you cannot escape the consequences of your actions –they will follow you around & catch up to you -but I will stand behind you & bless you because of my faithfulness to you”
    • I will never leave you or forsake you –Jesus says
    • “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases –his mercies never come to an end –they are new every morning –great is your faithfulness” (Lam 3:22-23)

Questions to think about

  • If God doesn’t want us to kill –why does he empower the Spirit of God in Samson to kill?
  • Why doesn’t the Spirit of God empower me in a greater way –like he has with Samson?
